Bibi Kirkby is a woman who resides in Holby. She is the mother of staff nurse Marty Kirkby and the aunt of Kian Madani.
Biography[]
On 19 July 2019, the day of her and Graham's 30th wedding anniversary, Marty introduced Bibi to his "girlfriend" Jade, but she believe that she was not the right person for him. As they were picking food, Graham urged her to be proud of their son's achievements, but she began to experience the symptoms of her heart block and collapsed.
Once she was taken to Holby City Hospital's emergency department for treatment, consultant Ethan Hardy ordered for a chest X-ray and connected her to the cardiac monitor. Despite her ECG coming back normal and her X-ray being clear, he decided to keep her on the monitor for another hour. In that time, it started to sound and showed transient complete heart block.
In resus 3, Ethan informed her that she would be moved to CCU for temporary pacing, and she asked to left alone with Marty. She implored him to live his own life and affirmed that Jade was not the right person for him as she was aware of his homosexuality. Marty apologised to her for "being gay", but she assured him that she just wanted him to be happy. He asked her if Graham was aware of his sexuality, and she urged him not to come out to him for the time being. After agreeing to be honest with each other, they shared a hug.
Due to the cardiac registrar being late in traffic, and the consultant being in the cath lab, Ethan elected to perform the procedure himself. He managed to insert the pacing lead into Bibi's right atrium, but she claimed that she did not feel very good and went into ventricular tachycardia. He pulled the lead back to stabilise her, but she instead went into ventricular fibrillation. Once she went back into complete heart block, he managed to reinsert the lead without making her go back into VF and connected the lead to the block. (CAS: Episode 1137)
